Free Childcare Centres: Easing the Cost-of-Living Crisis

As living costs continue to rise, the NSW government’s promise of 100 free childcare centres offers much-needed relief for working families.

The first of these centres, Gulyangarri Public Preschool in Liverpool, has opened with 80 places for four-year-olds, already enrolling 55 children.

Support for Working Parents

Premier Chris Minns and Deputy Premier Prue Carr inaugurated the centre on the first day of term four. Conveniently located on a public school campus, Gulyangarri makes it easier for parents to coordinate drop-offs and pick-ups for children across different year levels—saving both time and stress.

More Centres Coming Soon

This is just the beginning, with new preschools scheduled for Blackett, Cabramatta West, and Miller Public Schools in 2025. The government has committed to having all 100 centres fully operational by term one, 2027.

A Lifeline for Families Under Pressure

Free childcare reduces one of the biggest financial burdens on families, helping parents stay in the workforce and boosting household income. At a time when inflation, rent, and mortgage costs are soaring, these centres provide essential relief.
