Dutton Leads, But for How Long? Albanese Closes the Gap

With the 2025 federal election approaching, the latest Newspoll shows a tightening race. 

The Coalition holds a narrow 51–49 lead, but Anthony Albanese’s rising approval suggests that voter sentiment may be shifting.

Coalition Clings to Lead

The Coalition’s primary vote nudged up to 39%, while Labor also gained, reaching 32%. 

The Greens remain steady at 12%, One Nation at 7%, while minor parties and independents dropped to 10%. 

Using 2022 preference flows, the race is effectively a 50–50 tie.

Albanese’s Approval Climbs as Dutton Slips

Albanese’s net approval jumped nine points, with 41% now satisfied with his performance. 

Dutton’s net approval dropped to -14. This marks the first time since September 2024 that Albanese has a better net approval than Dutton—potentially a sign of shifting momentum.

The Better PM? Albanese Takes the Lead

Albanese now leads Dutton 47–38 in the ‘Better PM’ contest, his biggest margin in months. 

Leadership perception can shape voter confidence, and this shift could signal trouble for the Coalition.‍

If you are asked to be a part of an opinion poll that asks who you believe is going to win the next election, would you answer honestly?

It has become abundantly clear that people are opting to keep their political views close to their chests in these contentious times. 

Therefore, people seem to answer opinion poll questions in regards to upcoming elections in the most politically correct way, however, then go on to vote how they please at the polling booth.
